Perlman, M., Williams, J., Hirsch, M., and Bar-Ziv, J. (1975). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 50, 727. Familial non-cystic fibrosis mucus inspissation of respiratory tract. Two sibs, whose parents are first cousins, have had chronic obstructive airways disease from birth with recurrent otitis media, sinusitis, and mastoiditis. The disease, associated with clinically abnormal mucus, differs from other familial obstructive airways diseases and probably constitutes a new entity.

متن کاملLocalization of Staphylococcus aureus in infected airways of patients with cystic fibrosis and in a cell culture model of S. aureus adherence.
Staphylococcus aureus causes chronic respiratory tract infections in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Using immunofluorescence and scanning and transmission electron microscopy we located S. aureus in lung specimens of three infected CF patients, in a nasal polyp of one CF patient, and in a suspension cell culture system of primary nasal epithelial cells in vitro. Very little of S. aureus wa...
متن کاملDistearoyl phosphatidylglycerol liposomes improve surface and transport properties of CF mucus.
We have previously shown that a decreased level of phosphatidylglycerol in cystic fibrosis (CF) respiratory mucus is partly responsible for its marked adhesiveness and stickiness, which impair mucus transport, and that distearoyl phosphatidylglycerol (DSPG) was the most efficient form of phosphatidylglycerol in the enhancement of respiratory mucus clearance. The aim of our study was to analyse ...

CASE STUDY Initial Presentation A 30-year-old woman with a history of chronic respiratory infections and gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms presents to a new primary care practice group for evaluation of a 4-month history of daily cough and mucus production. After a focused history and physical examination, the physician refers the patient to a cystic fibrosis (CF) care center for evaluation and fo...
متن کاملDose-dependent in vitro effect of recombinant human DNase on rheological and transport properties of cystic fibrosis respiratory mucus.
Recombinant human deoxyribonuclease (rhDNase) has been demonstrated to reduce the viscosity of purulent cystic fibrosis (CF) respiratory mucus, to improve pulmonary function and to reduce the risk of respiratory tract infectious exacerbations, but its effect on mucus transportability has not so far been investigated. The dose-dependent effect of rhDNase was analysed in vitro on mucus transport ...
